A GOLD Coast mother-of-two has remained silent in her first court appearance charged with causing the death of her younger sister in a horrific Palm Beach crash.
Candice lee Chmieluk, 30, did not speak when she appeared in Southport Magistrates Court for a brief first appearance over the fiery crash.
Police will allege Chmieluk was over the legal blood alcohol limit when she lost control of her car and smashed into a light pole on Thrower Dr in May last year.
Her younger sister, Sammy-Jo, was trapped inside the burning wreck.
The matter was adjourned to July 26 and a brief of evidence is being compiled by police.
Chmieluk was supported by family and friends who arrived and sat together at court.
The group remained silent as they left, supporting Chmieluk who kept her head forward and eyes behind dark glasses.
At times members of the group guided Chmieluk around obstacles and helped her negotiate traffic as she crossed the road.
It took police more than a year to charge Chmieluk with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while adversely affected and driving under the influence.
It is alleged the pair had spent the afternoon at Currumbin Surf Lifesaving Club on Sunday, May 29 last year and only made it about 2km down the road before crashing.
Chmieluk was dragged to safety by bystanders but it is understood Sammy-Jo was killed instantly.
