Coal mine worker reportedly killed by exploding tyre in Queensland
A COAL mine worker has died after a tyre exploded in central Queensland.
AN exploding tyre has killed one person and injured a second at a mine in central Queensland.
A worker was killed when the tyre on a large mine truck blew up at a mine just outside Moura, an ambulance spokesman told AAP on Monday.
A second person suffered a shoulder injury and was taken to the local hospital. That person was not seriously injured, the spokesman said.
A Queensland Ambulance Service statement confirmed that paramedics treated a 21-year-old man with suspected shoulder and chest fractures after being called to the mine at 4.50am.
“He was taken by road to Theodore to be met by the CQ Rescue helicopter – it is not known at this stage which hospital he will be flown to,” the statement said.
A Queensland police spokesman told news.com.au that officers were called to the Dawson coal mine near Moura about 5.30am local time. The coal mine is located in the lower Bowen Basin, 140 kilometres southwest of Gladstone.
“We believe someone has died but that has not been confirmed yet,” the spokesman said.
