Bruce Highway crash victim Terry Bishop was on his way to family wedding when he died
A tragic detail has emerged about Terry Bishop, the retired grandfather who tried to help Gypsy Satterley before they were both killed.
The kind grandfather who had been trying to help 25-year-old Gypsy Satterley by giving her lift before they were both killed in a crash had been travelling to a family wedding, his family have said.
Terry Bishop, 65, died in a triple fatal car crash on the Bruce Highway at Federal at 4am last Friday.
Ms Satterley and Jessica Townley, 38, also lost their lives in the collision.
Queensland Police will allege a car being driven by a second man, 25-year-old Rafferty Rolfe, rammed Mr Bishop’s ute forcing it to cross to the wrong side of the road and slamming into Ms Townley’s vehicle.
Mr Bishop’s family have appealed for any information from witnesses about the moments leading up to the crash.
“Terry was travelling to Brisbane on Friday to attend a family member’s wedding the day following the incident,” the Bishop family stated on Monday.
“He leaves behind a wife, daughter, son and five young grandchildren who all loved him dearly.
“Our family is absolutely devastated, he is a man that would always go out of his way to help anyone in need.
“Our hearts go out to the other victims’ families and the first responders in this horrific tragedy.”
It’s understood Mr Bishop, a retiree and former long-term resident of Northgate in Brisbane, may have stopped to give Ms Satterley a lift.
The pair were unknown to each other before the crash.
Mr Rolfe has since been charged with several offences, including dangerous operation of a vehicle.
Police allege Mr Rolfe, who was Ms Satterley’s partner, was allegedly driving in a stolen car and unlicensed at the time of the crash, according to court documents.
Mr Rolfe has not been charged with the deaths of Mr Bishop, Ms Satterley or Ms Townley.
His matter will next be mentioned in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Thursday.
