Queensland.com describes the rock pools as being “suitable for all ages, with shallow sections perfect for the little ones”.

Regardless, warning signs situated around the area reportedly warn that “death and serious injury have occurred as a result of climbing on rock cliff faces and diving around the rock pools”.

A 41-year-old man died at the rock pools in 2016 after he jumped about 15m into the water and did not resurface.

The 18-year-old man who died on Sunday is also believed to have jumped in the water prior to his disappearance, according to the Gold Coast Bulletin.

Queensland Police and do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances around the incident.
