A man is fighting for his life after an alleged ‘one punch’ assault by his own son
THE man accused of a “one punch” attack that has left his father fighting for life and has appeared in court where he cried out, “I love you Mum”.
THE victim of a “one punch” assault in Brisbane’s central city was left lying face down on the concrete after the alleged attack by his own son.
The 53-year-old was walking down Ann St, near Central station, with his partner when an argument allegedly began with 25-year-old Morgan Isles-English about 4pm yesterday.
Police believe the father, from the Gold Coast, was punched in the mouth after a “brief verbal exchange” and then fell back, hitting his head on the concrete.
His partner began giving first aid until paramedics arrived. He was rushed to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with life threatening injuries. It’s understood he was in an induced coma last night, and may have to undergo surgery.
Witnesses said he was left lying face down on the concrete “after the king hit” until medical help arrived. He was breathing, but unconscious, Fairfaxreported.
His son reportedly left the scene before returning and then walking away again.
Isles-English, from Teneriffe, was charged with grievous bodily harm and appeared at the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.
He appeared distressed in court, pacing around the dock and cried out, “I love you, Mum”.
No application was made for bail and Magistrate Belinda Merrin remanded him in custody until next month.
