Prime Minister’s daughter trolled after he posts family pictures

Prime Minister Scott Morrison did what any proud dad would do — he shared happy snaps of his daughters. What happened next is shameful.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s daughter has been dragged into the lowest form of political commentary — trolling that targets the family of a politician.

On Saturday night, Mr Morrison shared some lovely family photos with his daughter, Lily.

“Joined by my curry apprentice tonight. Chicken Xacuti and Eggplant Masala,” the PM wrote.

But the Facebook post was immediately seized upon by the partisan crowd determined to take cheap shots at the prime minister.

“Bulls**,” wrote “active ALP member” Aaron Dodd on Twitter.

“That photo of your daughter was taken at least a couple of years ago. Her photo on Australia Day, shows her much taller and more matured. Even your photo ops are a lie.”

“Honey I Shrunk The Kid,” wrote Nicola Ward on Facebook.

“How long ago did you take this, she looks considerably younger and shorter than the family photo you posted few days ago?”

Others attacked the dress sense of the PM’s daughters after he shared a photograph from Australia Day.

“Seriously, who are these people?” asked Twitter user Sandra Eckersley whose bio somewhat ironically declares she supports “fairness”.

But it didn’t go the way Sandra may have hoped. She was labelled “creepy” for her comments about the fashion sense of children.

“I think a PM is fair game. The fashion choices of his children (who are ACTUAL children) not so much. In fact this transcends creepiness,” one commenter wrote.

“What’s with adults being weird about and to kids on Twitter?” another wrote.

Shane Bazzi, a well-known refugee advocate, wrote on Twitter: “It is so disturbing that there’s a group of people on this website, mostly Labor supporters, who are fixated with children - harassing them, doxxing them, threatening them, commenting on their body, making up conspiracies about them, making sexual comments about them.”

Columnist for the Canberra Times, Megan Doherty, went further with those thoughts.

“Rather than a pile-on on the PM’s family, Twitter actually rallied to their defence, stating the bleeding obvious: whatever you think of Scott Morrison, leave his family out of it, especially his young daughters.”

The Prime Minister’s daughter Lily does more than make delicious curries. She was front and centre at a citizenship ceremony on Australia Day where her proud dad read a poem she had written.

It read:

“My land called Australia. My heart soiled in loving grace. My cherished home filled with love and ancient dreaming. The high mountain ranges in between my gazes with the outback on the horizon we can see new beginnings.

“Through fire, famine, flood and pandemics, it’s going, going, going. We will never tire out. We’ll keep our flags up and let it fly, fly, fly. Australia, my land, my country of hardship, my country of grace, my country of stars.

“Don’t care how much you try to persuade me, give me books, money and lovely birch trees. Nothing can take my love from this land.

“Nothing can take the smile off my face when we get a sunburn and lie for a bit, my friends and family can ride together down to the river, beach or bay, we can sit and reminisce about the time the sun sprays.

“Yes, of course you can do that anywhere but can you see the drop bears there?”
