Pauline Hanson slams new requirement for politicians
One Nation senator Pauline Hanson has slammed a ‘stupid’ rule slapped on federal politicians planning to travel to Canberra.
One Nation senator Pauline Hanson has hit out at ‘stupid’ vaccine rules that could see her banned from Parliament House.
Federal politicians, like herself, may not be allowed to travel to Canberra without quarantining beforehand after new rules were announced, only allowing those who are fully vaccinated to skip isolation.
The One Nation Senator has been vocal about not wanting to receive the Covid-19 jab and said she was going seek advice on the matter and look into her rights as an MP.
“It’s not going to change my views about getting vaccinated. I already told the government I won't attend the October sittings anyway,” she told NCA NewsWire.
“It’s going to put the Coalition government into a bit of a bind with how they deal with this.
“My understanding is that they cannot stop an elected MP from attending the parliament to do their duties.”
It was announced on Thursday afternoon that only double jabbed federal MPs, senators and staff from Covid-impacted areas would not need to quarantine for two weeks ahead of October’s sittings and estimates hearings.
ACT chief minister Andrew Barr took to social media with the news, saying those who were unvaccinated would need to complete the 14 days of isolation.
He said the changes were made under new ACT Health guidelines.
Senator Hanson said the announcement was made very close to the sitting week that will begin on October 18, making it difficult for MPs who weren’t already vaccinated.
“The vaccinated person can still carry Covid so what’s the point?
“This is scaremongering. I’m not going to bow to his demands and I think they’re unrealistic.
“It’s stupid to put a person in quarantine for two weeks who doesn’t have Covid.”
Senator Hanson threw her support behind construction workers who refuse mandatory vaccinations.
She took to her social media platforms in September and appeared to have likened their cause to the Black Lives Matter movement.
“BUILDING LIVES MATTER,” she posted.
“One Nation stands with construction workers fighting for freedom of choice!”
Senator Hanson is the right-wing populist party’s founder and leader.
Her comments came as violent protests erupted outside of Melbourne’s CFMEU construction union headquarters last month.
Industry workers voiced their disapproval with the state government’s direction for all construction workers to have at least one jab in order to work.
