Pauline Hanson banned from appearing on the Today show

One Nation Leader Pauline Hanson has been banned from appearing on the Today show after racist remarks made on Monday.

The Today show has banned One Nation Leader Pauline Hanson from appearing on the program after she went on a rant on Monday morning, suggesting residents locked down in Melbourne’s housing commissions couldn’t speak English.

“The Today show has advised Pauline Hanson that she will no longer be appearing on our program as a regular contributor,” Nine’s news director, Darren Wick, said in a statement today.

“We don’t shy away from diverse opinions and robust debate on the Today show. But this morning’s accusations from Pauline Hanson were ill-informed and divisive.

“At a time of uncertainty in this national and global health crisis, Australians have to be united and supportive of one another. We need to get through this together.”

Ms Hanson also labelled residents drug addicts and alcoholics.

Speaking with host Allison Langdon on Monday morning’s broadcast, the One Nation leader argued residents were not left without supplies and they should stop complaining.

“Come on Ally, we’ve seen food being delivered there,” Ms Hanson said.

“A lot of them are drug addicts as well, they are getting their medication, they are alcoholics so they’re being looked after in that way.

“The Government has taken food to them, they get paid extra money, they are getting methadone, they are given the drugs, they are looking after their addictions, what is your problem?”

More than 3000 Melburnians have been locked down in their homes across nine residential towers across Flemington and North Melbourne.

Premier Daniel Andrews announced the strict stay-at-home orders, stating residents in those towers would not be allowed to leave their homes for five days and would be tested for COVID-19.

Twelve postcodes have been locked down in response to the ongoing crisis.

The news comes as NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced the NSW-Victorian border would close from midnight on Tuesday.
