‘We’re all mad as hell’: Friends of Kimberley Kitching furious at Labor’s ‘hypocrisy’

Former Labor MP Emma Husar has launched an extraordinary attack on opposition leader Anthony Albanese — accusing him of behaving like a “gaslighting narcissist”.

The Daily Telegraph spoke to Ms Husar in the wake of the death of Senator Kimberley Kitching and amid claims of a bullying within the Labor party.

Ms Husar, who represented the Western Sydney seat of Lindsay but left parliament in 2019, told the publication the stress of being bullied by ALP powerbrokers caused her to develop a heart condition that required the care of a cardiologist.

She said it was “disgraceful” that the ALP was not investigating the circumstances of Ms Kitching’s death from an apparent heart attack.

She was particularly scathing of Mr Albanese — saying his outrage over the term “mean girls” to describe a bullying culture within the party in the wake of Ms Kitching’s death was a form of “gaslighting”.

“A woman lost her life and there were circumstances that point to the Labor Party, but what Albo is doing here (by turning the phrase around) is absolute gaslighting,” Ms Husar told the Telegraph.

On Thursday it was revealed Ms Kitching made a formal complaint of bullying before her death to a PwC consultant brought in to deliver training on “safe and respectful workplaces.”

The late senator raised the issue on November 5, 2021 during a closed-door meeting that was witnessed by a senior staff member in her office.

Before her death, Ms Kitching confirmed she had made the disclosure to PwC to news.com.au and it has also been confirmed by colleagues after her death.

“I am being bullied,’’ she said. She said the female employee from PwC then asked her if she would find the training “triggering”.

Mr Albanese has repeatedly denied there is a toxic culture for women within Labor.

“I’m very proud of the fact that I lead a team that has 50 per cent female and male contribution in my shadow cabinet.

“I’m proud of all of the people in the leadership team of the Labor Party,” he said earlier this week.

“We have an extraordinary group of talented women. They are all making a contribution.”
