Malcolm Turnbull says Australian values are up to the public to decide
WHEN Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull struggled to say what Australia’s values were, the public kindly took over.
IT’S been a big week for Australia and the conversation regarding immigration and Australian values.
Not only has the Australian government announced changes to the nation’s citizenship laws, pledging to “reinforcing, Australian values”, migrants will now face a longer wait, tougher language tests and will be asked to prove how they’ve integrated into Australian society.
Mr Turnbull’s citizenship crackdown, comes just two days after the Prime Minister outlined an overhaul of the 457 temporary foreign worker visa system.
In fact, Australian values has been the Prime Minister’s key message of the week.
It's official. "Australian values" is to Malcolm Turnbull as "stop the boats" was to Tony Abbott. #auspol https://t.co/EKnVJZSZj8 pic.twitter.com/bR3GobiYf2

Despite this, there was a telling pause in the Government’s Australian values drumbeat today when Mr Turnbull struggled to say what they were.
For close to a minute, punctuated by self-interruptions, Mr Turnbull essentially made clear this will be decided by public discussion.
So, we’ve let the public decide.
