Brittany Higgins, the former Liberal staffer whose alleged rape sparked a national movement, will call on Prime Minister Scott Morrison to commit to in-principle workplace reforms for all political staffers at a meeting in Sydney today.

Two months after going public with her account of an alleged rape at Parliament House in an exclusive interview with news.com.au, Ms Higgins is in Sydney to hold talks with political leaders.

Ms Higgins also held discussions with Labor leader Anthony Albanese this morning and will meet with the Prime Minister this afternoon.

“It was a very constructive meeting and I was very grateful for their time,’’ she told reporters after completing discussions with the Labor leader.

She was accompanied by her partner, journalist David Sharaz. Ms Higgins has previously accused the Morrison Government of leaking and backgrounding against Mr Sharaz to undermine her campaign for justice.

But news.com.au understands she will be accompanied to her meeting with the Prime Minister by a range of victims of crime advocates and feminists including renowned businesswoman and campaigner Wendy McArthy AO.

The 79-year-old Ms McArthy was one of 80 women who put their name to a full-page advertisement in a national newspaper in the early 1970s, outlining that she had terminated a pregnancy and urging the police to arrest her.

She also established the NSW division of the Women’s Electoral Lobby in 1972.

She is currently the Deputy Chair of GoodStart Learning and a campaigner for childcare reform.

Because the police investigation into her alleged rape is ongoing, Ms Higgins will not be discussing her personal ordeal with political leaders today, but will be arguing for broad reforms to the working conditions for political staffers.

Ms Higgins has previously told news.com.au she felt constrained by her job from making a police complaint and feared her employment was not secure after the 2019 election which was a factor in not making a complaint at that time.

The Prime Minister first offered to meet with Ms Higgins in late March, but a meeting has not been arranged until now.

“While it’s disappointing that I haven’t heard from the Prime Minister’s office since they initially made contact on the 6th of April — I’m hopeful the meeting will proceed,” she said on Twitter.

“After two months, a national protest and countless other horrifying stories — the time for action is now.”

Ms Higgins made a formal complaint to the Australian Federal Police (AFP) about her alleged rape in February.

The man she has accused of assaulting her remains the subject of an AFP investigation and has not been charged with any crime.
