THE wife of Salim Mehajer has dramatically gone into bat for her husband, pleading for his political life so he can build a multimillion-dollar block of units in his western Sydney suburbs.

Aysha Mehajer, whose lavish marriage last August threw the couple into the celebrity spotlight and magnified the focus on Auburn Council, asks Local Government Minister Paul Toole, in a letter obtained by news.com.au, not to carry out his threat to sack the local authority.

The sacking would sees Mr Mehajer stripped of his deputy mayoral role.

Mr Toole gave Auburn Council two weeks to demonstrate why its councillors should not be suspended while a public inquiry takes place into allegations a number of councillors misused their position to allegedly obtain positive planning outcomes for themselves, associated companies, relatives and fellow councillors.

That deadline runs out today.

Mr Toole singled out a decision made by the council in December to sell a council-owned car park in Lidcombe to the Mehajers, upon which its company Sydney Constructions and Developments (SCD) hopes to build the apartment block.

The minister said it was a cause for concern after it emerged the original sale price was well below a series of subsequent valuations.

Ms Mehajer, a former beautician, was made a director of a string of companies making up her husband’s property empire late last year including SCD.

The letter from Ms Mehajer, dated February 5, says she is “perplexed as to how there can be any uncertainty with respect to the sale (of the carpark) ... which would lead to the suspension of council”.

She goes on to say that a “proper analysis” of the circumstances would see an end to any “allegations of impropriety with respect to the purchase”.

“Suspending the council could lead to extensive delays to building the property or even mean it would have to withdraw from the development altogether,” she said.

“SCD is prepared to do all the things to protect its rights which arise under existing contract, including if the Minister interferes with those contracts.”

Since the controversial wedding, rarely has a week passed without Mr Mehajer making headlines. The latest saga involves pictures of a full-leg tattoo that has Aysha Mehajer’s face tattooed on his upper thigh and her name on his calf.

But the suspended deputy mayor says the tattoo that was created at Bondi Ink 18 months ago does not belong to him.

Mr Mehajer offered to prove he was inkless, telling the Daily Telegraph it could come and check his legs.

“You have the wrong person. Come visit me I’ll show you my legs,” he told the newspaper. “Come around next Friday. Give me a call.”

News.com.au also contacted Mr Mehajer and asked him if he would be willing to send in a photograph of his leg sans tattoo but to no avail.

The tattoo shop would not shed any light on the mysterious leg with a spokesman for Bondi Ink saying that while its clientele certainly included a number of famous faces it couldn’t talk about individual customers.

On the post, which cropped up on the shop’s Instagram account 18 months ago but appears to have gone unnoticed until now, the Bondi Ink user posts that it was a “beautiful wife portrait”.

The parlour, which overlooks Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach and features in its own reality TV series, has been frequented by celebrities including One Direction’s Zayn Malik, Rove McManus, Larry Emdur, Ronan Keating and Guy Sebastian.
