Anthony Albanese’s rock star treatment alongside Hoodoo Gurus at Yes event

Anthony Albanese has joined forces with an iconic Australian band to push for the yes vote at the upcoming referendum.

Anthony Albanese has teamed up with Australian rock royalty to rally for the Voice to Parliament just weeks before voters head to the polls.

The Prime Minister was joined onstage at the West Says Yes event held at The Factory Theatre in Marrickville by the Hoodoo Gurus and Dog Trumpet.

In front of 500 fired up Voice supporters, Mr Albanese called for Australians to say “yes to recognition” on October 14.

The PM was also joined on stage at the packed theatre by Yes23 campaign chair Rachel Perkins, journalist Ray Martin, and Australian of the Year Local Hero Amar Singh.

Also the founder of charity Turbans 4 Australia, Mr Singh was a “secret guest” at the event and is currently travelling 25,000 kilometres around Australia to try to encourage people from multicultural backgrounds to support the referendum.

The hopeful crowd was also treated to performances from Hoodoo Gurus and Dog Trumpet.

On Wednesday night, more than 1000 people turned out to a No campaign rally in Brisbane to rally behind Warren Mundine and Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price.

Senator Price told the cheering crowd the country should never have been subjected to “such a divisive referendum”.

“Our Prime Minister should never have put us on this path in the first place,” she said.

“For some time, we as a nation have come under attack from those who want to believe that we’re made up of two kinds of people, that we are either oppressed, or we oppressors.

“We’re told we’re a terrible, racist country... these are absolute lies.”

The crowd cheered as Senator Price said the referendum represented a “line in the sand” where people wouldn’t be subject to “gaslighting or manipulation”.

Outside the conference, protesters from either side of the campaign came to a head, screaming abuse at each other on the street.

Yes supporters chanted “No pride, no pride, no pride in genocide” as people exited the building, with No supporters appearing to taunt them from a distance.

“How do you spell racist? LNP!” the protesters cried on occasion.

Security at the convention centre and police formed a barrier between the clashing groups.

No arrests were made.
