A TWO-YEAR-OLD boy sparked a frantic search after being accidentally placed in the wrong car when he took a trip out with his aunty to get fried chicken.

There were tears of joy from Richard’s distraught mother when she was reunited with her tiny son — whose disappearance sparked a major police search operation lasting two hours.

He was located safe and well yesterday afternoon after the driver of the vehicle got home and realised an unknown child was in their car.

Western Australia Police launched an urgent search after Richard was accidentally placed in a car parked outside a fast-food chicken shop on Doric St in the Perth suburb of Scarborough.

The driver of the car rang police after finding the toddler in their car and he was found safely on Lakeside Dr in Churchlands.

Channel 9 footage shows the touching moment he was reunited with his mother.

“What were you doing in someone’s car?” she sobs through tears as she takes the boy from police officers — who carried him to the home.

“I’m so relieved. I wouldn’t be able to live without my baby boy,” the teary-eyed mum told 9 NEWS.

“I thank everyone for their hard work finding my baby son. It felt like my heart was taken out of my chest.”

Earlier police released a description of Richard and the car, which was described as a white Mazda 2 sedan. It’s believed the car was being driven by a woman aged in her 50s, who was wearing dark trousers, white top and stone-coloured vest.
