Woolworths Ancient Animals cards hit stores today as parents prepare to go crazy all over again

PARENTS have been sent crazy over the last couple of years by baby animal cards, Aussie animal cards and super animal cards.

But just when you think Woolworths has run out of animals to put on cards they found some dead ones.

Yes, the next round of animal cards from the supermarket giant is upon us and the latest crop looks at animals you can’t find walking the Earth anymore.

I give you the Ancient Animal cards covering prehistoric beasts like dinosaurs and woolly mammoths.

Launched today in Woolies supermarkets across the country, the Ancient Animals collection includes 81 cards and 27 stickers.

That’s right parents. Stickers.

Now you can find animals on your walls, on the coffee table, on the kitchen cupboards and probably on you.

Woolworths head of sponsorhip and events Karen Madden said she had been overwhelmed by the response to the cards.

“Kids all over the country have been collecting, trading and swapping cards in schoolyards trying as hard as they can to complete the full set,” she said.

“Parents valued the educational aspect of our Aussie Animals and Super Animals cards.”

Educational, yes, but also driving parents towards insanity.

While I’m sure no parent is disputing the educational benefits of the cards, we are disputing the need to recruit family and friends to collect for us so our little angels don’t turn into gremlins who have been fed after midnight because we failed to get the last animal needed to complete the set.

So, if you see a slightly manic mother or father barging through the aisles in the supermarket in coming weeks please spare a thought for them.

Their minds are millions of years in the past as they hunt the dinosaurs and mammoths their children so desperately need.
