A woman has been flown to hospital with serious injuries after a speargun was fired into her neck in bizarre circumstances.

Police were called to a home Carrington St in Woonona, north of Wollongong, on Tuesday after reports a woman was hit with a speargun shaft.
NewsWire understands the 42-year-old woman opened a cupboard and the speargun fell out, discharged and shot the barb into her neck.
The woman suffered serious injuries to her neck and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being flown to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.
NSW Fire and Rescue were called to the scene to help remove part of the speargun shaft.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
