Woman charged after allegedly stabbing three men and daughter in Salamander Bay on NSW coast
A young NSW woman has been charged after she allegedly stabbed several people last night, including her five-year-old daughter.
A woman has been remanded in custody accused of stabbing several people, including her young daughter, despite being locked inside a shop by witnesses who tried to intervene.
Police said the incident occurred at Salamander Bay in the NSW Hunter Region at about 5.40pm yesterday.
The 26-year-old woman had been walking along Soldiers Point Rd with her five-year-old daughter when she got into the back seat of a stopped car, allegedly armed with a knife.
She then allegedly stabbed a 45-year-old man, who was inside the car with his 15-year-old daughter, near the intersection of Scott Circuit and caused minor lacerations to his shoulder.
Police say the knife was covered by a protective sheath at the time.
As the man attempted to drive away, the woman got out of the car and walked towards a nearby shopping precinct with her child where she entered a supermarket.
She was confronted by members of the public, including a man who was armed with a chair.
A 44-year-old man who had walked out of a grocery store and attempted to talk to the woman was allegedly stabbed in the chest and back with the knife and also suffered minor lacerations.
Police said the woman lunged at him and attacked after removing the sheath from her knife.
Despite being locked inside the store by witnesses and alleged victims, the ordeal continued.
The woman is accused of chasing a 50-year-old man and stabbing him in the back before stabbing her young daughter in the head several times and dragging her around by her hair.
Police arrived and arrested the woman who’s then accused of twice punching a senior constable in the face.
The woman was taken to Mater Hospital under police guard for treatment for stab wounds to her head, believed to be self-inflicted, and a mental health assessment.
Following treatment, she was taken to Raymond Terrace police station and charged with 11 offences.
These include four counts of being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, three counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, and one count each of wounding person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, affray, assaulting a police officer and resisting or hindering a police officer in the execution of their duty.
The woman made no application for bail when her case came before Raymond Terrace Local Court today and it was formally refused by magistrate Peter Barnett SC.
Her matter is listed in the same court on Monday, September 2.
Her daughter was taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment to lacerations to her skull.
The three men allegedly stabbed by the woman — who police say was unknown to them — attended a local clinic for superficial injuries.
