Teens leave trail of destruction in alleged armed assault on elderly couple in hotel
An elderly woman is recovering from injuries after three armed teens allegedly forced their way into her hotel room in regional NSW.
A teenage boy has been charged over an alleged Boxing Day ambush on three separate hotels across northern NSW.
Police were first called to a hotel room on Amaroo Drive in Moree at 3.15am on Thursday following a report three men with knives had forced entry into their room.
The room was occupied by a 63-year-old female and an 83-year-old male, with the former taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Police allege the teens left the hotel and proceeded to a second one on Mungindi Road, where they became involved in a physical altercation with a 51-year-old man occupying the room.
Police allege the group then broke into another hotel room at the same location, threatening a 78-year old man and his 65-year-old accomplice with knives before stealing their car and fleeing the scene.
The group allegedly then travelled to a third hotel on Warialda Street, and threatened a 41-year-old man and his 11-year-old son, allegedly taking the keys to their car as well.
It’s alleged they then crashed one of the vehicles – a white 4WD – into a parked car.
Following extensive inquiries, police arrested a 14-year-old boy at a home in Moree on New Year’s Day, with the boy allegedly found in possession of small amounts of cannabis.
He faced charges of drug possession, aggravated break and enter (armed), and use of an offensive weapon to commit an indictable offence at Parramatta Children’s Court on Thursday.
Inquiries will continue as police seek to locate the remaining alleged offenders.
