‘You need genuine mental help’: Nigel Farage slams ‘left-wing’ Aussie who confronted him in Sydney
Controversial ex-UK politician Nigel Farage got heated with a “left-wing” Aussie protester in a clash that’s now gone viral online.
British broadcaster and political commentator Nigel Farage has lashed out at a young protester after he was confronted by the man while in Sydney on Saturday afternoon.
The former leader of the UK Independence Party made the visit to Australia to speak at the two-day Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), which was held at Darling Harbour’s International Convention Centre.
But Mr Farage’s appearance was quickly overshadowed by his encounter with an apparent “left-wing” Australian during his departure.

Footage shows a young man wearing a black face mask accusing Mr Farage of being “racist, islamophonic and anti-queer” before telling him “fascists aren’t welcome here”.
Mr Farage, who is known for leading pro-Brexit party Ukip, disputed the comment by asking the “intellectual” man to define the meaning of fascism.
“Far right, scum like yourself,” the man replied.
“People who want to organise as the far-right, people who want to have conferences like this where you’re going to talk about how you can smash women’s rights.”
The “verbal altercation”, as Mr Farage described it, erupted into a war of words after the political commentator posed the question, “have you been to the conference?”.
In response, the man admitted that he didn’t attend but rather spent the time standing out on the street with “ordinary people”.
As the confrontation continued, Mr Farage labelled the man as having a “prejudice” before insinuating he was incapable of having a debate without using profane and abusive language.
“I respect your right to have a different opinion, I completely respect your right to do that but what you can’t have is a debate,” Mr Farage said.
In rebuttal, the man said he wasn’t there to have a debate but to protest instead.
The dispute came to a close when the man told Mr Farage to “get out of Sydney” before chanting “racist bigots, anti-queer, fascists are not welcome here,” several times.
In a final remark, Mr Farage slammed the protester, commenting “you need genuine mental help”.
“He was talking nonsense,” the political commentator later captioned a video of the altercation on Twitter. It has since been viewed more than 950 thousand times.
Meanwhile, in another video posted by Mr Farage in the comments of his viral video, the broadcaster is seen standing next to a cardboard cut-out of former US president Donald Trump.
“Great, so great,” Mr Farage said while pointing at the image of Mr Trump. The video was accompanied with the caption “Make Australia Great Again!”.
The verbal face-off wasn’t the only clash between protesters experienced by those who attended the event.
NSW Police had to separate attendees and media representatives from ralliers at one stage, after they walked into the wrong crowd.
Meanwhile, authorities blocked a series of protesters who attempted to run through the back entrance of the centre. They then tried to march on the front entrance chanting “f*** off fascists”, but were once again diverted by police.
The protests followed comments made earlier by Mr Farage labelling former Australian prime minister Scott Morrison as a “gutless coward”.
He then took aim at other conservative leaders, stating that they had shown “a lack of courage” in the past few years in what was an unprecedented time for the country’s former government.
