TWO 17-year-old boys have been arrested by counter-terror police in Sydney’s south-west.

A spokeswoman from NSW Police confirmed the arrests to news.com.au around 3pm on Tuesday afternoon.

“Police have arrested two males in Sydney’s south-west,” police said.

According to the ABC, sources said one of the men was “wielding a bayonet when he was apprehended in Bankstown”.

It reports the same man was questioned by New South Wales police two years ago over an “incident” at his school.

The Daily Telegraph says police stopped an “imminent attack” in Sydney’s south west.

In a statement, police said: “The NSW Joint Counter-Terrorism Team has arrested two 17-year-old males in Bankstown this afternoon.

“Officers seized two knives and the pair remains in custody.

“Police are unable to release anything further at this time however there is no on-going threat in relation to this matter.”
