Scott Morrison was filmed cracking a whip while his wife Jenny brought out a tray of margaritas during a final party at Kirribilli House following the Liberal defeat.

In footage obtained by 9News, the outgoing prime minister was seen hosting a party on the veranda of his official residence overlooking Sydney Harbour.

Kirribilli House is a secondary residence for the Prime Minister of Australia, with the official residence being located at The Lodge in Canberra.

Reporter Mark Burrows said the event was “a chance for the Morrisons to say thank you to their staff and families”.

During the course of the afternoon, Mr Morrison was seen drinking a beer, as his wife Jenny bought out a tray of margaritas.

Notably, margaritas also featured in a pre-election segment Mr and Ms Morrison filmed with 60 Minutes inside their home. During the program, the Morrisons shared margaritas, curry and a pitchy rendition of Dragon’s April in the Sun in Cuba (complete with ukulele accompaniment by the PM) with journalist Karl Stefanovic.

On what will be their final day in Australia’s prime ministerial residence, the couple shared an intimate kiss on Sunday while staring at the home’s view.

Livening up the proceedings was some family whip-cracking, with almost the entire Morrison clan showing off their skills including Mr Morrison, his wife and their daughter Abbey.

On Saturday night, Mr Morrison conceded defeat in the federal election and announced he would quit the Liberal leadership.

However, he said he planned to remain as the Member for Cook for now, something that has drawn criticism from others.

”To my colleagues tonight, who have had to deal with very difficult news, and have lost their seats tonight, I as leader take responsibility for the wins and the losses,’’ Mr Morrison told supporters on Saturday.

”That is the burden and that is the responsibility of leadership.

“As a result I will be handing over the leadership at the next party room meeting to ensure the party can be taken forward under new leadership which is the appropriate thing to do.”

On Sunday, Labor consolidated its lead, securing 76 seats, which is enough to form a majority government. Results in five seats remain in doubt.

Labor leader Anthony Albanese, who will be sworn in as prime minister on Monday, was pictured having a coffee with his dog Toto after securing the win, meeting up with Sally Sitou, who won the seat of Reid for Labor, on Sunday.

Mr Albanese will have a busy start to his term in office, travelling to Tokyo in Japan on Monday to represent Australia in the second in-person Quad Leaders’ Summit, which will be held on Tuesday, May 24.

“This will be my first international trip as prime minister and I am honoured to represent Australia at this important forum,” Mr Albanese said in a statement.

He said the Quad Leaders’ Summit would bring together leaders from Australia, Japan, India, and the United States of America, in support of a free, open and resilient Indo-Pacific, with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at its centre.

“Under my Government, Australia will continue to work through the Quad to deliver positive and practical initiatives in our region, including on health, security, and climate change,” Mr Albanese said.

“During my visit, I will also meet bilaterally with my counterparts, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, United States President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to discuss ways to promote and protect our shared interests.”

Mr Albanese said he would be joined by Foreign Minister Penny Wong.

They will return to Australia on Wednesday, May 25.

“I look forward to implementing our commitments to the people of Australia,” he said.
