NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian smiles after ‘worst day of her life’
Gladys Berejiklian woke up after a bruising day and will face even more heat – but you wouldn’t know it judging by her comments this morning.
The NSW Premier left her house with a smile on her face on the morning after the worst day of her life.
“I’m OK, thanks very much,” Gladys Berejiklian told reporters before heading off to parliament, where she is expected to face a vote of no confidence over her explosive revelation on Monday that she was in a five-year relationship with an MP at the centre of a corruption inquiry.
Ms Berejiklian faced a barrage of questions about her relationship with former Wagga Wagga MP Daryl Maguire when she appeared in front of the Independent Commission Against Corruption. Later that afternoon, it was reporters’ turn to question her, and the Premier admitted she made a mistake but said she intended to continue on in the role.
While the Opposition Leader Jodi McKay has said she intends to bring a motion of no confidence, and some Liberal sources have said her days as premier are numbered, Ms Berejiklian has had solid support from her Government.

Several of her ministers have made it clear she still has their backing, including NSW Energy and Environment Minister Matt Kean, who told the Today show on Tuesday morning: “Everyone is entitled to a personal life, including Gladys Berejiklian. And the reality is, she remains the best leader in the country, and she‘s done absolutely nothing wrong.”
For a person who describes herself as very private, the exposure over her personal life has been “devastating” for Ms Berejiklian.
NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance said on Monday was “the worst day of her life”. But the Opposition has said the issue isn’t the Premier’s private life but her political judgment.
“This is a matter of integrity. It’s amatter of trust,” Ms McKay told the Today show.
“Now there are two things she could have and should have done. One, she should have disclosed she had been in a relationship with him; two, she should have reported what she knew to ICAC because she knew what he was up to. Instead she didn‘t. She continued in the relationship, and she did nothing about it.”
