Liberal Party campaign truck drives away with back doors open week after another crashed at voting centre
A second instance of truck trouble has struck the Liberal Party just a week after another campaign truck crashed into the site of an early voting centre.
A Liberal Party candidate has been struck by a second bout of trouble after a campaign truck appeared to have driven off with the back doors swinging wide open just a week after another crashed into the site of an early voting centre.
The video, shared to Facebook, shows a truck emblazoned with election material for Greenway Liberal candidate Rattan Virk pulling out of a driveway with the back doors open on the morning of the Federal Election.
Someone can be seen chasing after the truck as the doors swing open, however it doesn’t appear to stop in the short clip.
The person then stops, placing their hand on their head as the truck continues to drive away.
“Oops what happened here? Hahaha Rattan Virk election day off to a good start,” the video is captioned.
“Good grief, if getting Australia ‘back on track’ looks like Rattan Virk and her volunteers, then I don’t want a bar of it,” one commented.
“Another truck incident. I think you all need to give the trucks back at this point. Clearly not responsible enough to be hiring them,” added another.
The incident marks the second incident involving a Rattan Virk election campaign truck after another crashed into a portico at the site of an early voting centre, leaving the centre unable to open on the first day of pre-polling on April 21.
Video from the aftermath of the crash at Quakers Hill Community Centre shows a man ripping off the signage on the truck.
A spokesperson for the NSW Liberal Party apologised for the Quakers Hill incident but did not address the footage of the signage being torn off.
“Yesterday, a truck delivering materials to Quakers Hill Community Hall dislodged a portico,” the spokesperson said in a statement to NewsWire.
“We sincerely regret any inconvenience this has caused for the local community.
“The local campaign proactively contacted the appropriate authorities and fully co-operated, following instructions when they arrived to assist at the hall.
NewsWire has contacted the NSW Liberal Party for comment over the fresh incident.
