A CROWDED commuter bus has crashed into a wall of a busy Sydney transport interchange this morning leaving six people hurt.
Five people were taken to hospital after the State Transit vehicle smashed into a wall within the undercover interchange at Chatswood railway station about 7.15am, the North Shore Times reported.
Officials said there were about 45 on board the Forest Coach Lines route 280 from Warringah Mall to Chatswood when it apparently lost control on the eastern side of the station, just off Orchard Rd.
An Ambulance NSW spokeswoman said five ambulances were sent to the scene.
“Our paramedics treated and assessed six people and five of those were taken by ambulance to Royal North Shore hospital,” the spokeswoman said.
“We have details of two patients so far. One woman was treated for head and back injuries and another female suffered lower leg injuries”
The driver was also taken to hospital.
A NSW Fire & Rescue spokeswoman said when its crews arrived they found one injured woman still on board the bus and another four injured people next to the bus.
“Our Urban Search and Rescue unit is one the way to the interchange where it will use equipment to stabilise the structure,” the spokeswoman said.
“Engineers will check the extent of damage to the structure including extensive damage to wall.”
The interchange is partially closed and passengers are advised to check transport websites and apps about possible delays.
