Young survivor of Taylor Swift-bound car crash showing signs of improvement

The family of a young girl who survived a car crash that killed her sister on the way to the Eras Tour have given an update on her condition.

Heartbreaking details of 16yo Swift fan’s fatal crash on way to concert

The child survivor of a car crash that claimed the life of a young Taylor Swift fan has shown “promising signs” of recovery.

Freya Pokarier, 10, was flown to hospital in Sydney after the car she, her 16-year-old sister Mieka and mother Kim Litchfield were in collided with a semi-trailer near Dubbo on February 15.

The family were en route from the Gold Coast to Melbourne to see Taylor Swift’s billion-dollar concert The Eras Tour when Mieka was killed.

Freya and Ms Litchfield were both hospitalised after the crash.

A GoFundMe page set up by the girls’ godmother Karleigh Fox has raised almost $90,000.

Freya sustained brain injuries, a broken leg and a damaged pelvis in the crash, and has been left in a coma by doctors – but a recent update from Ms Litchfield revealed she had been moved from intensive care into a dedicated rehabilitation ward.

“We are yet to see her beautiful eyes open, however, she has shown some really positive signs that she may be hearing her loved ones,” Ms Litchfield wrote on March 7.

“She moves her left arm a lot and brings it up to her face now.

“She has sighed, yawned and hiccupped, and this morning she moved her head side to side.

“She’s currently peacefully snoring as we type this, even though she used to argue with mum that she didn’t.

“On Saturday, Freya even got the opportunity to go outside and seemed to love the wind blowing in her face.”

Ms Litchfield said they were cautious to not get too enthusiastic too quickly and were taking it “one day at a time”.

“Mum and dad are so grateful for the love and support that has been given to her and the family, and it continues to mean so much,” she wrote.

Freya’s father Peter Pokarier wrote in a social media post that the support had been “overwhelming”.

“The comments alone on the GoFundMe has left me feeling something I’ve never felt before,” he wrote.

“I’d never thought I’d have to raise a cross on the side of the road for my 16-year-old daughter.”

The family said they planned to celebrate Mieka’s life when Freya could hopefully attend.
