Victorians from coronavirus hot spots are not welcome in NSW, according to the Premier Gladys Berejiklian, who issued a warning to residents today telling them not to let Melburnians into their homes.

While addressing the media about the new Amazon warehouse build in Sydney’s west, Ms Berejiklian said her message was clear.

“I’ve not given any different advice to what the Victorian health officials are telling their people. Anyone in hot spots or in greater Melbourne should not be travelling, let alone interstate,” the Premier said.

“You are the boss of who comes into your home. Do not allow anyone from a hot spot in Melbourne or from greater Melbourne to come into your home. You have the right to say no.”

Ms Berejiklian urged family and friends from Victoria not to visit their “loved ones” in NSW until it got its community transmission under control.

She has also asked businesses in NSW to have COVID safe plans in place to refuse service to anyone from a Victorian hot spot.

“These are all actions I encourage everyone to take at this time. Please note that we will continue to be vigilant here in NSW. Things can change very quickly in terms of the rate of community transmission,” she said.

Her warning comes as Victoria works to stem a new spike in cases of COVID-19. There are more than 200 active cases in the state, with Melbourne’s northern and western suburbs containing the majority of the clusters.

Five new cases of COVID-19 were announced in NSW, while Victoria is yet to unveil its latest figures today.

“Don’t relax. Assume everybody in and around you has the disease. You have to,” Ms Berejiklian said.
