Devastating new details about 19-year-old found dead in North Bondi unit

Sad revelations have emerged about 19-year-old Yolonda Mumbulla who was found dead in a Sydney unit after a call was made for her welfare.

Young North Bondi woman found dead has been identified

The 19-year-old found dead in a unit is a young mother who shared a child with the 32-year-old man who was arrested at the home.

The body of Yolonda Mumbulla, 19, was discovered in a unit in North Bondi, in Sydney’s east, on Tuesday morning after a call was made for her welfare.

It is understood police are investigating whether Ms Mumbulla died as a result of a drug overdose.

Ms Mumbulla’s partner, Aaron Carey, 32, was arrested at the Hardy St apartment.

Police said he was subject to an unrelated outstanding arrest warrant for larceny at the time.

Social media posts show Ms Mumbulla and Mr Carey welcomed a child together last year, with friends confirming this to news.com.au.

In one post from 2023, Carey shared he was the “luckiest guy ever to have you in my life Yolonda”.

“I love you so much babe. Thank you for starting a family with me,” he wrote.

“You make me the happiest man ever. I love you so much.”

Ms Mumbulla was identified earlier on Wednesday when a fundraising page was set up by a friend to help pay for the Sydney woman’s funeral.

“With such sad and sudden news, we ask for your help in giving her a beautiful send off,” Alyah Pera wrote.

“Yolonda always had such an uplifting spirit, she was funny, full of joy and she was always there to help anyone.”

Ms Pera said her friend’s cause of death was still unknown pending an investigation.

On social media, another loved one posted a tribute to her “sis” Ms Mumbulla.

“I’m so lost (right now) it was only just a few days ago I was gonna ask when you wanted to have a mummy play date,” she wrote.

A strike force was set up to investigate Ms Mumbulla’s death and lines of inquiry include “misadventure”, NSW Police said on Wednesday.

Officers searched a unit on Flood St, Bondi yesterday evening and allegedly found 1g of methylamphetamine and cannabis.

Carey has been charged with the outstanding warrant for larceny value less than or equal to $2000, three counts of enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner/occupier, destroy or damage property less than or equal to $2000, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, and goods suspected stolen in/on premises.

He was refused bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday.

A 34-year-old man, who is yet to be identified, has also been charged with two counts of possess prohibited drug and granted bail to appear before court on June 18.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the woman’s cause of death and a report will be prepared for coroner.
