A construction site in Sydney’s east has been temporarily shut down and slapped with a $13,500 fine after breaching multiple Covid-19 public health orders.

Police stopped to speak with three workers at the Bronte Rd site in Waverley who weren’t wearing face masks about 11am on Thursday and discovered the men were all from Sydney’s local government areas of concern.

The men were then unable to show police any work permits or evidence they had all been jabbed with at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

“They all told police they were unaware of the requirements under the public health orders,” NSW Police said.

Upon temporarily shutting the site down for the day police noticed there was no QR code on the premises and then established that there was “no Covid safety plan”.

“The owner of the company was contacted, who told officers that he was unaware of his obligations, including for ensuring his employees complied with the public health orders,” NSW Police said.

The 23-year-old’s business was slapped with a $10,000 fine, while two of the employees – aged 24 and 27 – were issued $1000 fines and $500 infringements for failing to wear a face covering.

The third employee was also issued with a $500 infringement.

They were all advised that they were not permitted to work outside of their LGAs until they had met the requirements in the public health orders before being ordered to return to home.

Sydney is in the midst of a serious Covid-19 outbreak, with 1288 new local infections recorded on Thursday.

Seven more people died, taking the state’s Covid-19 death toll since 16 June, when the Delta outbreak began, to 107.
