A man, woman and young child have tragically died after their car swerved off the road and hit a tree as they drove on a coastal highway during the Easter long weekend.

The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

A young child and two adults have tragically died after the car they were travelling in crashed into a tree along a NSW highway early on Saturday morning.

The trio and a fourth passenger were driving north along the Princes Highway in Lake Tabourie, about 13km south of Ulladulla on the state’s south coast, when the Honda Accord left the road and crashed.

Emergency services responded to the accident at about 4:30am on Saturday.

The female driver, a male passenger and a child died at the scene.

NSW Police said they had not yet been formally identified.

A fourth occupant, another male passenger, was flown to Canberra Hospital but his condition is not yet known.

Just one lane of the busy highway was open at Lake Tabourie, and stop/slow traffic control was in place near Weymouth Road.

A crime scene had been established as officers investigated the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Traffic has since returned to normal and all lanes of the Princes Highway are open.

In a separate incident, a 46-year-old woman who was the passenger in a car crash on Friday died in St George Hospital this morning.

The driver, a 64-year-old man who sustained suspected spinal injuries, remains in the hospital after the Hyundai i30 crashed into a power pole at about 8.20pm along Ramsgate Road, Ramsgate in Sydney‘s south.

On Wednesday, authorities predicted a busy Easter travel period following last year’s strict restrictions and urged drivers to take care.

NSW transport minister Andrew Constance asked people to slow down and plan trips in advance.

“Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to travel, don‘t speed, drive to the conditions, wear your seatbelt, avoid distractions, make sure you’re well rested and if you’ve been drinking or have taken drugs, don’t drive,” he said.

NSW Police have confirmed there have been road five fatalities during this year’s Easter long weekend road safety operation.

In South Australia, a 24-year-old man from Mawson Lakes was found dead inside his vehicle after his blue Holden utility crashed into a tree at Hillier just before 7.45am on Saturday morning.
