Truck fire M4: Driver escapes serious injury after truck blaze
A truck has erupted in flames on one of Sydney’s busiest motorways this afternoon with one lane still closed.
A driver has escaped relatively unscathed after a semi-trailer burst into flames on a highway in Sydney’s west on Thursday afternoon.
Traffic on the M4 slowed to a crawl as crews battled the blaze on one of the busy motorway’s off-ramps at Reservoir Road, Huntingwood.
Footage from the scene showed firefighters dousing a charred truck cabin that had collapsed and melted, as smoke billowed over the highway.
A NSW Fire and Rescue spokesman said three trucks were dispatched to the scene after receiving a triple-0 call about 1.35pm.
They arrived to find the truck, which is believed to be carrying food products, still alight and a driver with minor injuries.
Initial reports were that the driver had suffered burns, but the spokesman said the man had only singed hairs and small injuries and was taken into the care of paramedics.
A man in high-vis gear was shown speaking with paramedics in the dramatic footage captured by 7 News.
UPDATE: A section of Reservoir Rd is also closed in both directions between the M4 and the Great Western Hwy.
