Three women have been left with critical injuries this Christmas, while a young child escaped with scratches, after the SUV they travelled in rolled in the NSW Riverina region.

The driver of the vehicle, her front-seat passenger, aged 47, and the back seat passenger, aged 25, sustained critical injuries after the vehicle left the Sturt Highway, 15km east of Balranald, and rolled multiple times at about 3.50pm on Thursday.

Members of the public, including an off-duty doctor, tried to help the women — who all believed to be Malaysian nationals — until emergency services arrived.

The SUV driver remains in a critical and unstable condition at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne where she was flown with severe head injuries, according to NSW Police.

Both adult passengers were separately flown to Royal Melbourne Hospital where the older woman suffers from severe head injuries, while the younger woman is in a critical condition.

The two-year-old girl, who was travelling in a child restraint in the back seat, is being cared for at Balranald Hospital after she escaped with scratches.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and inquiries are continuing.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.
