Teenager Kasey Xuereb killed in tragic crash in Sydney’s west
KASEY Xuereb was cruising with her mates in Sydney yesterday when her life was tragically cut short. Now her friends want answers.
A TEENAGE girl has been named as the victim of a tragic, fatal car accident in Sydney’s west in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Kasey Xuereb, 17, died after a car she was a passenger in mounted a kerb and smashed into a power pole at high speed.
She suffered major injuries as a result of the horrific crash which took place about 5.30am on Sunday. The teenager died at the scene in Blacktown, western Sydney.
Tragically, the teenager is understood to have fallen asleep in the back seat and slipped under her seatbelt before the accident.
The driver, 18-year-old Cameron Cook, from Kings Langley in the city’s west, was taken to Westmead Hospital with various injuries and remains under police guard.
Two other passengers, a 15-year-old and 17-year-old girl, were also taken to Westmead with minor injuries.
Mr Cook was given mandatory drug and alcohol testing. He has not been charged with a crime.
But Ms Xuereb’s grieving family and friends took to social media to express anger over her death.
“Rest easy Kasey, another young life lost over stupid driving,” one wrote.
“It’s all fun and games speeding until your idiotic choices leave a family without their child. Everyone needs to slow down, especially in the wet — no one is invisible,” another wrote.
Chief Inspector Trevor Peterson said all four passengers were wearing their seatbelts, but it appeared Ms Xuereb may have slipped through her seatbelt as she slept.
One nearby resident said there was one loud bang which could be heard ringing through the neighbourhood when the fatal crash took place.
“There’s no skid marks, no sign of brakes, nothing. One big bang and that was it,” Frank Manna told 9 News.
Investigators will allege several items were discovered in the crashed Mazda 6, including several white pills, drug paraphernalia and cash.
