The relative of a teenager killed during a brawl at Sydney’s Royal Easter Show has faced court this afternoon.

Brawl breaks out at Sydney Royal Easter Show

The relative of a teenager stabbed to death during a wild brawl at the Sydney Royal Easter Show has been granted bail after he was charged with affray and carrying a knife.

A 17-year-old was killed on Monday night after the brawl allegedly broke out in front of the circus clown carnival game about 8pm, as shocked bystanders watched on.

Emergency services rushed to the annual Easter event to find two teenagers suffering from stab wounds.

The 17-year-old was critically injured after he was stabbed in the chest, while another 16-year-old boy suffered stab wounds to his leg.

Confronting footage shows paramedics desperately performing CPR and injecting the 17-year-old with blood to keep him alive.

Despite best efforts from paramedics, the teenager died on the way to hospital.

“When paramedics arrived, one of the patients was in cardiac arrest after having suffered a traumatic chest wound,” NSW Ambulance Inspector Mark Whittaker said.

“Paramedics performed CPR and a number of other critical interventions at the scene before loading the patient for transport to Westmead Hospital, unfortunately despite best efforts he couldn’t be resuscitated.”

A 15-year-old boy was arrested a short time later and charged with affray and carrying a knife.

On Tuesday the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in Parramatta Children’s Court via audio link from Auburn Police Station, where was supported by his mother and aunt.

No pleas were entered and police did not oppose the granting of bail.

In court, the police prosecutor said the teen who was charged was a relative of the 17-year-old who was killed.

The court heard the boy was alleged to have pulled a knife and chased three unknown men after his relative was fatally stabbed.

The knife the boy pulled had been given to him by his relative who was stabbed, the court heard.

In light of the boy’s lack of a criminal record and “minor role” in the incident, he was granted conditional bail and ordered to comply with an 8pm to 6am curfew.

Footage taken by onlookers who witnessed the brawl shows two males fighting, with one throwing multiple punches at the other boy’s ribs and head before another man jumped in to defend him.

Police were forced to close sections of the show as they began their investigation.

The Royal Agricultural Society of New South Wales (RAS) released a statement following the tragedy.

“The Royal Agricultural Society of New South Wales is shocked and saddened following the tragic loss of life on Monday night as a result of a fatal stabbing in the adult carnival, and our sympathies are extended to the family and loved ones of the deceased person,” the statement said.

“The adult carnival at the Sydney Royal Easter Show will remain closed on Tuesday, 12 April, while police continue investigations following the incident.”

All other elements of the show will remain open on Tuesday.

“The RAS does not tolerate or condone any violence or anti-social behaviour and we join with NSW Police and the wider community in condemning this appalling behaviour and unnecessary loss of life,” the statement read.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has mobile phone vision is urged to call Auburn Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
