Sydney Trains workers stood down over altercation with blind man

Worried passengers have watched the moment a man’s guide dog stood by his side while he brutally fought with three rail workers.

Three Sydney train workers have been stood down after they were filmed brawling with a blind man on a station platform.

A passenger used their mobile phone to film the brutal altercation between the man and the three rail workers.

In the footage obtained by 7News, the man is seen on the ground with his guide dog standing by his side.

Sydney Trains allege the man was drunk and behaving aggressively when workers tried to remove him at Blacktown Station in Sydney’s west.

When he was asked to leave the train, things descended into violence.

Footage taken from inside the train shows the station manager trying to restrain the blind man before he latches onto the leg of a shirtless train guard.

When the guard frees himself, the shirtless worker appears to use his foot to hit the man’s head, causing his head to hit the platform and knocking him out cold.

Sydney Trains spokesman Tony Eid slammed the actions of the staff.

“That action is unacceptable,” Mr Eid said.

“That action is something that we do not a condone and certainly we don’t train our people to take that sort of action.

“We did have a station staff member who was bitten. We’ve taken him to hospital as a precautionary measure because he did break skin.”

In a statement, a spokesman for Sydney Trains confirmed it was investigating the incident.

“Sydney Trains is investigating an incident that occurred at Blacktown Station earlier this week.

“A Sydney Trains employee has been stood down pending the outcome of our investigation. We have also instructed the security contractor to conduct its investigation, and for the two employees involved to be removed from our network.

“This incident at Blacktown Station is unacceptable and Sydney Trains would like to reassure customers that we take their safety and security very seriously.”

NSW Police confirmed it would not be pressing charges as no official complaint had been made.
