'Sovereign' biker films baffling clash with cop

A self-proclaimed “sovereign citizen” has filmed his bizarre roadside clash with a highway patrol officer he oddly believes holds “no authority” over him.

The man appeared to have been pulled over on the side of a NSW road by Highway Patrol after allegedly being clocked doing 106km/h in a 60km/h zone.

In a lengthy confrontation later uploaded to TikTok, he filmed as he tormented an officer with false claims about what he believed were his rights under “common law”.

The man appears to belong to a group of people who call themselves sovereign citizens and claim to be answerable only to their particular interpretations of the “common law” and not subject to any government statutes or proceedings, unless they consent to them.

The biker stopped by Highway Patrol made a series of bizarre comments to the officer, including, “just remember, your choice creates your destiny”.

“That’s OK. I’ve made my choice and you’ve made yours. Let’s get on with it,” the officer responded.

Despite being on public land, the biker told the officer: “I’m not trespassing”.

“I haven’t alleged that. This is a public roadway. How could you be?” the officer replied.

Without any apparent reason, the man then went on a bizarre rant about what he believed the definition was under common law.

“Common law is common law. It’s the law of the land. Admiralty maritime law is the law that you enforce. It requires consent,” he said.

The clearly puzzled officer questions why the conversation had drifted into maritime law, telling the man: “I’m not the water police big fella”.

“They don’t even tell you, they’ve lied to you as well,” the biker responded before asking the officer, “do you see where this is going?”

The officer told him, “down hill for you. That’s all I see”.

While claiming he was “not trying to fight” with the officer, it seemed he had refused to hand over his licence after being allegedly clocked speeding.

The officer told him: “produce a licence [and then you’ll be] free to go”.

As the biker continued with his effort to convince the officer he didn’t have to comply with the law, the officer pulled out his phone and began typing.

“You should be paying attention. This is real life, it’s not a dream,” the biker said.

The officer later asked the biker to move away from the road so he wouldn’t be in danger of being hit by a passing car.

“Constable I do not stand under your authority, have I made myself clear?”

The video was cut before an outcome of the exchange was revealed.
