Thursday’s figures also show there are 191 people in hospital with 31 in intensive care.

Across the state, 94.4 per cent of the population aged over 16 have received their first dose of the vaccine while 92.1 per cent are double-vaccinated.

For those between the ages of 12 and 15, 81.1 per cent have had one dose while 75.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There have been 74,926 tests in the past 24 hours.

The news comes as 84 people at a Byron Bay backpackers will have to undergo a seven-day snap lockdown after a Covid-positive visitor was at the hostel.

Thousands of teenagers are preparing to arrive in the coastal town and other holiday hot spots for annual schoolies celebrations.

Unvaccinated teenagers in NSW were granted exemptions to attend the end-of-year celebrations, with health officials giving the green light for all year 12 students to attend formals and graduations.

While they still will not be allowed to attend house parties or nightclubs, the unvaccinated year 12 students can attend their school formals.

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard signed off on the ruling on Wednesday.

“The HSC students of 2021 have had an incredibly tough 18 months, including substantial time without face-to-face teaching, and missing out on seeing friends and family,” Mr Hazzard said.

“They deserve to be able to party with their friends and enjoy one of the biggest celebrations of their life.”
