Mum reveals moments after her two-year-old son was mauled to death by two dogs

The mother of a little boy who was mauled to death by dogs has spoken of the distressing moment she saw his lifeless body.

Losing a child to a dog attack should be a ‘national disgrace’

The mother of a little boy who was mauled to death by dogs has spoken of the distressing moment she saw his lifeless body.

Takisha Pollard told the Daily Telegraph she had only been staying at the Country Gardens Inn in Cowra, in New South Wales’ Central West, for one night when two-year-old Jyedon was attacked by a rottweiler and a cattle dog.

Ms Pollard said she went to get her five-year-old daughter a drink from inside their housing department-arranged accommodation and left Jyedon to play outside the room.

When she returned a minute later, he was gone.

“I was yelling ‘Where’s Jyedon, where’s Jyedon?’,” she said. “Then the man came running with my son in his arms... screaming ‘call an ambulance’.

“Jyedon was silent... all these people saying there was a kid screaming, there was no screaming. My son was silent.”

Jyedon died from awful injuries to his neck as well as punctures to his heart and lungs.

Ms Pollard has criticised the housing department for putting her family up at the motel as temporary accommodation.

“I’m furious at Housing for not checking it out properly and seeing there were dogs there,” she said.

Police say Jyedon got into an enclosed area where the dogs were being kept.

The mother and her children are now staying at alternative temporary accommodation.

A Department of Communities and Justice spokesman said officials “inspect temporary accommodation facilities to ensure that standards continue to be met”.
