A disgruntled homeowner has hit out at his local council for not removing a tree he says is “dangerous” and has already damaged property.

Simon, from Avoca Beach on the NSW Central Coast, made the latest plea after a years-long battle to cut the gum tree that towers over his property down.

He said five branches have dropped on the house and other debris has smashed into two cars.

“It’s a danger to me, my family, my property and the general public,” he told A Current Affair.

“It should be taken down, the sooner the better.

“It’s one of those situations where council is waiting for something to happen before they do anything about it.”

The tree is planted on Central Coast Council land who Simons said refuse to remove it.

In a statement, the council said tree management in the area was already sufficient.

“Council has already invested in excess of $1.6m in public tree inspection, maintenance and removal this financial year,” the statement read.

“Qualified arborists have inspected the tree on several occasions and determined it did not need to be removed.”

Simon said he has offered to pay the $4000 needed to remove the tree, but this offer was refused.
