Man found dead at popular Newport Beach in Sydney’s northern beaches

The body of a swimmer has been pulled from the water at a popular beach after a frantic search.

The body of a man in his 50s has been pulled from the water at a popular beach in Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Emergency services were called to Newport Beach about 9.50am on Sunday following reports of concerns for a man who was swimming in the water nearby.

NSW Police officers from the Northern Beaches rushed to the beach and commenced a search with the help of Marine Area Command and Surf Life Saving NSW.

Emergency services deployed specialist equipment including marine rescue, the PolAir helicopter, and a Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter.

They discovered a man’s body in the water about 11.30am.

The man is yet to be identified but is believed to be in his 50s.

A report will be prepared for a coroner.
