Man, 46, charged over wild outburst on Sydney light rail track
A man has been charged after allegedly facing off with a Sydney light rail before falling headfirst into a police car during a wild arrest as jeering bystanders filmed.
A man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted a police officer during a bizarre meltdown in Sydney CBD over the weekend.
Footage showed a long-haired man standing on the light rail track at the intersection of Liverpool St and George St on Saturday about 11pm.
He is heard shouting and appearing to raise his middle finger at the driver after a Circular Quay-bound tram was forced to come to a sudden stop.
Seconds later, police arrived at the scene.

The irate man allegedly slams his hands on the patrol car before a male constable jumps out of the vehicle to intervene.
He walks toward the officer and allegedly tries to punch the cop who dodges the fist.
The man allegedly attempts to throw a second punch and misses again before losing his balance and falling head first onto the police car.
The male constable jumps on top of the man, before a female officer comes to his assistance.
A crowd who had gathered to watch started to cheer on the police.
“F**k him up, f**k him up,” one man shouted.
“Sucked in,” a second bystander yelled.
Another patrol car arrives moments later as he continues to resist arrest.
At least five officers were needed to apprehend the man.
Another video showed at least half a dozen bystanders had earlier tried to calm the man who was heard repeatedly screaming near a light rail station.
A police spokeswoman said they received calls about a man “behaving aggressively”.
It will be alleged the 46-year-old man had damaged a police car and assaulted a male constable who was treated by paramedics for minor injuries.
The man was charged with go onto or into and remain on or in running lines etc, behave in offensive manner in/near public place/school, assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.
He was refused bail when he appeared at Parramatta Local Court on Sunday.
