Major delays after car collides with Sydney light rail

Sydney’s light rail has been rocked by significant delays after a car and a tram collided in Surry Hills this afternoon.

Major delays have rocked Sydney’s light rail service after a car and a tram collided on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Devonshire Street in Surry Hills just before 4.25pm after reports of the head-on collision.

No-one on the light rail was injured but a NSW Ambulance spokesman said the driver suffered cuts to his face from the accident.

He has been transported to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.

Photos taken from the scene show the man’s totalled Mazda, surrounded by concerned passengers.

Due to the accident, light rail services are not running between Central and Randwick on the L2 Randwick Line, or between Central and Juniors Kingsford on the L3 Kingsford Line.

Replacement buses were being organised but were not yet on site,

Passengers are advised to delay their trip, allow plenty of extra travel time, or consider catching local bus services instead.

Light rail services are still running between Central and Circular Quay.

A NSW Police spokeswoman said the light rail suffered significant damage and officers were continuing their investigations.
