‘Helping hand’ NSW energy bill rebate expires soon
The clock is ticking for hundreds of thousands of families to shave $180 off their power bill.
The deadline NSW’s family energy rebate is nearing, as chances to get the $180 rebate end June 16.
“This rebate offers a helping hand to low-income families with dependent children, allowing them to spend more on what matters,” state Energy Minister Penny Sharpe said.
The Minister is also reminding consumers to shop around, saying customers with old or uncompetitive plans could save between $120 to $221 per year on power.
About 400,000 families in the state meet the criteria of receiving the Family Tax Benefit A or B this past financial year; eligibility requires having done your most recent tax return.
“The Family Energy Rebate is real money that can benefit people struggling with the cost of living, I encourage all families to check their eligibility for rebates online, and apply before the June 16 deadline,” Ms Sharpe said.
Case studies provided by the Minister’s office say the rebate has helped their families pay for after school activities, solar panels and an EV.
“I applied on the family energy rebate website, using my computer with my energy bill next to me,” NSW woman Rosh Veera said.
The NSW government has six rebate schemes tied to energy policy.
About 400,000 families are eligible for the family energy rebate this year.
Applications close 11pm, June 16.
Last month the federal government announced every household in the country will get a $300 power bill rebate.
