Heartbreaking new detail after teen killed in crash while on her way to see Taylor Swift

A heartbreaking new detail has been revealed after a teen girl was killed in a car crash on her way to see Taylor Swift.

The heartbreaking final moments of a teenage girl who was on the “trip of a lifetime” to see her idol Taylor Swift have been revealed.

Mieka Pokarier was on a dream road trip from the Gold Coast to Melbourne with her little sister Freya, 10, and their mum Kim Litchfield, when their car collided with a semi-trailer near Dubbo just before 6pm on Thursday.

The 16-year-old died at the scene while Freya was flown to Westmead Hospital and is currently fighting for life in a medically included coma, with the girl suffering from brain injuries, a damaged pelvis and broken leg, according to the family’s GoFundMe page.

Their mother Kim, who was driving, was taken to Dubbo with minor injuries and has now been reunited with her youngest daughter.

It has just been revealed that the last thing diehard Swift fan Mieka had opened on her iPad before she died was a carefully curated Taylor Swift playlist on Spotify, The Sunday Telegraphreported.

The teenager had reportedly taken hours to create it and had filled it with all her favourite Swift songs to keep the trio entertained on the 17-hour journey to see the pop superstar.

Sadly, they would never make it, instead leaving three empty seats at the Melbourne Cricket Ground after the tragic .

“It should have been a dream road trip,” Mieka’s godmother Karleigh Fox told the The Sunday Telegraph, adding that they were “over the moon” when they landed tickets after spending eight hours refreshing their screens.

Ms Fox revealed Mieka had just gotten her first job and her learner’s license.

Mieka’s whole life was dedicated to Taylor Swift, with her cat even being named Mr Perfectly Fine, after a Swift song.

Mieka and Freya’s heartbroken father, Peter Pokarier, paid to tribute to his daughter on Facebook.

“That’s my baby that died”, he said.

Sharing a link to the GoFundMe, he said that this was “my family and what I live for I’m devastated!!!!”.

Ms Fox thanked everyone who had donated and added that Freya’s condition “could still be life threatening”

“Whilst we navigate even just learning the layout of the hospital, process the complex trauma to our little one’s organs and process the deep loss of our 16 year old, we can exhale a little knowing that we can cover some basic costs for now thanks to your generous donations,” she wrote.

“As we stare down all of the potential ways forward our lives may change depending on potential brain damage of our little one and how we would get her to therapies now that the family has lost their car … so many things to think about.

“Mama was reunited with her baby this morning. It was very emotional.

“We are playing her favourite Taylor Swift album ‘1989 Taylor’s Version’ on repeat in her room and telling her about the merch we are seeing people buying online.

“We had some thorough chats with the incredible doctors about the potential prognosis and we are not out of the woods yet with risks of swelling in the brain and infection still evident. This could still be life threatening.

“We were amazed to learn that our darling had 8 blood transfusions plus other blood products by the ambulances on site. One unit is one donation, so if you have time this week please go and donate at your local blood bank.”

She said that doctors would be keeping Freya in an induced coma for a few more days to give her body a “chance to stay still and hopefully recover as much as possible”.

“The real work will begin of course when she is conscious and we will then see a whole lot of anxiety and distress from her and potential carer burnout for Mama, as that’s the person our girl is going to want the most,” she said.

“We are doing our best to help her remember to eat and drink and take care of herself. Mama is still very sore, bruised up and slow. Dad and big sis are amazing and we are all working together as a team navigating this process.”

Tributes have flowed online, with friends sharing their fond memories of the 16-year-old on social media.

“Mieka, oh what a beacon of light you were,” Cheyenne Craige wrote on TikTok.

“I never thought I’d have to imagine going to your house and you not being fast asleep in your bed or having to tell you to hurry up or we’re leaving you behind.

“You deserved to live for so many more years but unfortunately you were taken way too early.

“I love you Mieka, come back soon please. I miss you now, and forever.”

Both Mieka and her younger sister Freya had been members of the Gold Coast Youth Theatre Academy.

“This one is very special and important to us. All 4 children in this family have been students of Kellie’s at one time or another,” Academy owners posted on Facebook.

The GoFundMe set up for Mieka and her family has already received more than $25,000 in donations at the time of writing.
