Body of teenage boy missing in Shoalhaven River has been found

A New Year’s Eve swim has turned into tragedy after the body of a teenage boy who vanished in a popular river was recovered by divers.

The body of a teenage boy who vanished after a New Year’s Eve swim has been found.

Police said two boys, aged 15 and 16, went for a swim in the Shoalhaven River at Burrier on Friday evening when one of the teens got into difficulty.

The pair tried to swim to shore but the 15-year-old boy disappeared under water.

NSW Police said his body was found by divers just before 1.30pm on Saturday.

Emergency services including police, police divers, paramedics, the ambulance rescue helicopter and the SES were all involved in the search.

Members of the public also tried to help search for the missing boy using their own boats.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
