‘Emotional’: 7News presenter quits after 15 years to finish law degree
A popular 7News presenter is bringing her media career to an end to take up a surprising new challenge.
An “emotional” 7News presenter Jodi Speers is retiring from the news desk after 15 years to take on a new challenge.
Ms Speers announced on Instagram that she had been studying law for the past year in between reading the morning news, juggling young children and waking up at an ungodly hour.
“I’ve been chipping away at a law degree and am now looking forward to finishing my JD and getting back to court in a different capacity,” she said.
Ms Speers acknowledged her co-workers in the post, saying she would miss them the most.
“This job has given me so much over the past 15 years,” she said.
“From a stint in federal parliament, another one in the courts, and everything from crime scenes to red carpets, bushfires to brain surgeries, every day was different.
“Sometimes sad, often stressful, at times hilarious or completely bizarre.”
Fellow coworkers and friends congratulated Ms Speers on her achievements.
Leila McKinnon responded: “Just casually doing a law degree in your spare time … what a machine.”
“Going to miss starting our day with you. But your new profession may come in handy for me one day congratulations and well done,” Sam Mac said.
Ms Speers is married to 9News presenter and 2GB host Ben Fordham. The couple have three children.
