A couple has been charged after allegedly being caught performing a sex act near a primary school in Sydney’s inner west yesterday morning.

Police were called to Stanmore at 8.30am after the pair was allegedly seen publicly performing the act at Weekley Park, which is right across from St Michael’s Catholic Primary School.

It was during a time when many students would be arriving to start the school day, with NSW Police saying “a number of parents and children were in or near the park” at the time.

Officers arrived and arrested a 39-year-old man and 31-year-old woman.

During a search officers also allegedly found methamphetamines and cannabis in the man’s possession. The pair was then taken to Newtown Police Station.

The man was charged with wilful and obscene behaviour, offensive conduct and possessing prohibited drugs and the woman was charged with offensive behaviour.

Both of them were granted bail, with the man to appear in Newtown Local Court on February 24 and the woman to appear in the same court on March 12.
