Restrictions lifted: This is what's allowed in Melbourne

In an attempt to combat the COVID-19 recession, income tax cuts could be brought forward following next week's federal budget, with some Aussies in for an extra $2565 by January.

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg's budget is set to feature the biggest deficit since WWII, after the coronavirus pandemic forced the nation into its first recession in almost 30 years.

Income tax cuts originally intended for July 2022 could come as soon as January, benefiting more than 10 million taxpayers.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison all but confirmed the income tax cuts will be brought forward in the budget next Tuesday, following Mr Frydenberg's confirmation in July that bringing forward the income tax cuts was a live option.

"We are looking at that issue and the timing of those tax cuts because we want to boost aggregate demand, boost consumption, put more money into people's pockets and that is one way to do it," Mr Frydenberg said at the time.

Meanwhile, Michael McCormack has been roasted on social media for suggesting young Australians head to the regions to "pick fruit" and "find love".

The Deputy PM is urging unemployed youngsters to take up farming, where they'll find the promise of a great "Instagram moment" and "adventures that you'll remember for the rest of your life".

"Have a go. Come to regional Australia. Bring your mobile, have that Instagram moment because up a ladder, picking fruit, blue sky in the background, wonderful country breeze, wonderful friends around. You'll find more friends, you might find the love of your life out in regional Australia. It could change the way you live," Mr McCormack said.

But his suggestion has been mocked online, with users taking to Twitter to see Mr McCormack has "no idea" about the realities of fruit picking.

"'I mean, you'll get paid sh*t, there's like no infrastructure to support you and what infrastructure is in place has been substandard for decades because no one's really held anyone to account, but sure you'll get some killer Insta shots of you falling asleep on top of four others," commented one user.

"New dating service from Michael McCormack!" another said.
