A six-year-old boy has died and three others remain in hospital after a dual-cab ute and a truck collided on a rural road on NSW’s Far South Coast.

Police were called to Towamba Rd in Nullica, about 10km southwest of Eden, about 4.10pm on Tuesday after an LDV dual-cab ute and a truck crashed.

A six-year-old boy, who was travelling in the ute, died at the scene.

A 31-year-old man, who was the driver of the ute, and two girls travelling in the car, aged two and eight, also suffered several injuries.

The driver was airlifted to Canberra Hospital, and the two girls were flown to the Sydney Children’s Hospital.

NSW Police Inspector Jason Hogan confirmed all surviving passengers of the ute remained in hospital.

The eight-year-old girl is undergoing treatments from specialists and remains in a serious but stable condition.

Inspector Hogan described the crash as a “terrible tragedy that we need to avoid”.

“Drivers need to be careful,” he said.

“They need to drive to the conditions, obey the road rules and make sure they get themselves and their passengers home safely.”

Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

Inspector Hogan said there was nothing to suggest at this stage that the road conditions were dangerous.

The truck driver, aged 52, was taken to South East Regional Hospital at Bega for mandatory testing and to be treated for shock, police said earlier on Wednesday.

He has since been released from hospital.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
