Body found in creek bed believed to be 18-year-old Merna Kasha
The body pulled from a western Sydney creek bed is believed to belong to a teenager who has been missing for more than a month.
The body of a woman has been found in a creek bed in Sydney’s west, believed to be missing 18-year-old Merna Kasha.
Emergency services were called to Green Valley Creek off Pitt Street in Canley Heights around 2pm on Saturday after reports a body had been found.
Officers established a crime scene and began forensic examination of the surrounding area.
The body is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be 18-year-old girl Merna Kasha, from Fairfield, who has been missing for over a month.
An investigation is underway and a post-mortem examination will be conducted to confirm her identity and determine the cause of death.
Merna Kasha was last seen when a family member dropped her off at a residential address on Kihilla Street in Fairfield Heights on April 28.
Police believe she made contact with her family a few days later, but she has not been seen since.
Police noted during the search for the missing girl that she can be distinguished by piercings to her lip, nose and cheek as well as a tattoo in the middle of her back.
Detectives are yet to confirm whether they are treating her death as suspicious.
