‘Beautiful boy’: Tributes flow for Kaison Greaves after Easter Sunday tragedy

The family of Kaison Greaves have paid tribute to their ‘strong-willed and incredibly funny’ boy following his tragic death on Easter Sunday.

The family of Kaison Greaves have paid tribute to their “strong-willed and incredibly funny” boy following his tragic death on Easter Sunday.

Kaison, 9, died after falling and becoming trapped between rocks at the popular South West Rocks beach in the NSW mid north coast region.

The boy was eventually freed after a large rescue effort, but he died at the scene.

Kaison’s father David said the family was heartbroken by the loss.

“He was an adventurer, strong-willed and incredibly funny, and always had a cheeky grin,” David said in a statement.

A friend of the family has set up a fundraiser for the family, remembering Kaison, also known as Kai, as “an extremely bright boy”.

“The Greaves family lost their beautiful boy Kai yesterday at South West Rocks in NSW while on holidays with his family,” the fundraiser states.

“He was an extremely bright boy who had a wonderful life with his devoted parents Brook and Dave.

“I am a close friend of the family trying to help in any way possible, the absolutely heartbreaking loss of a child is unimaginable.

“If we as a community / friends and family can do anything it’s to support the family while they grieve their son and bring their boy home to Queensland from NSW.”

Emergency services were called to the beach about 3.30pm on Sunday, after reports a young boy had fallen and was stuck between rocks.

Mid North Coast Police District inspector Peter Walton, said an investigation into the incident was underway and a report would be prepared for the coroner.

”Indications are it is nothing but a tragic misadventure which has resulted in the loss of a young child and unimaginable grief for the family,” he said.

“I can only imagine what the family was going through watching it all unfold … it was a very difficult situation for all that were there.

“Indications are that he was just playing on the rocks, and probably a number of kids play on those rocks every day.”

Surf Live Saving NSW has described the Easter long weekend tragedies as the “worst” on record.

The state recorded six fatalities in the water over the holiday period.
